Regalis Plus by BASF - Australia Packshot

Regalis® Plus

Plant growth regulator

Opening up the canopy and unlocking extra yield

Active ingredient(s): 100 g/kg Prohexadione-calcium
Formulation: Water dispersible granules

Regalis® Plus provides a simple way to control the shape of apple and cherry tree canopies, letting in extra light to create more even and productive fruit development. Regalis Plus targets gibberellin production more selectively than other growth regulators, so shoot growth is controlled without any disruption of positive processes like fruiting stimulation and the development of optimal fruit size and colour. The end result is increased yields of – in many cases – higher quality fruit, with added benefits like hugely reduced pruning time and labour costs.

Key benefits

  • Simplifies crop management by reducing shoot growth in apples and cherries
  • Aids in producing higher quality fruit
  • Built-in water buffers and acidifying agents

How it works

Regalis® Plus is a gibberellin inhibitor that selectively targets the final stage in gibberellin production which controls shoot growth. That late intervention means Regalis Plus stands out among growth regulators because it has no negative impact on the size and quality of the crop.

Alternative growth regulators such as paclobutrazol act early in the gibberellin biochemical pathways that adversely disrupts photoperiodism, fruiting stimulation, fruit colour (flavonoids and antioxidants) and fruit size as well as shoot growth development.

Regalis Plus contains built-in water buffers and acidifying agents that activate the product during tank-mixing. Maximum activity is achieved when the spray solution is pH <5.

Questions and Answers from the Field

  • Are plant growth regulators harmful?

Plant growth regulators are not harmful when used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Regalis® Plus is a targeted growth regulator that reduces shoot growth in apples and cherries to simplify crop management, increase yields, and produce better looking fruit. To ensure safe and correct application when applying Regalis® Plus always follow the instructions on the label.

  • Can I reduce the height of my apple tree?

Regalis Plus is a plant growth regulator that selectively targets the final stage in gibberellin production to control shoot growth in apple trees. Regalis® Plus helps to control the height and shape of apple trees without negatively impacting the colour or size of the fruit, or quantity of the yield.

  • What is the best plant growth regulator?

Regalis Plus plant growth regulator is the best choice for controlling shoot growth in apples and cherries. Regalis® Plus selectively targets the final stage in gibberellin production to control shoot growth without disrupting the processes that lead to great quality fruit. Alternative products on the market act early in growth process, affecting photoperiodism, fruiting stimulation, fruit colour and size.

  • What is the purpose of applying growth regulators to plants?

Growth regulators like Regalis Plus can be applied to apple and cherry trees to control the shape and height of the tree canopies to increase the amount of light that reaches the plant. Better light penetration leads to more even and productive fruit development, lower pruning time and labour costs, and reduced fruit drop and bitter pit.

  • Which plant growth regulator is the best for apples?

Regalis Plus plant growth regulator is ideal for use on apple trees. Regalis® Plus controls shoot growth by selectively targeting the final stage in gibberellin production, leading to more intense fruit colour, lower pruning time and labour costs, and reduced fruit drop and bitter pit.
Regalis Plus can be applied to apple trees in a two- or three-spray program starting when the terminal shoots are 3 to 5 centimetres long, with repeat applications at three to five-weekly intervals.
