Vivando® Fungicide By BASF - Australia Packshot

Vivando®

Fungicide

Rendering powdery mildew powerless

Mode of action: Group U8 fungicide
Active ingredient(s): 500 g/L Metrafenone
Formulation: Suspension concentrate (SC)

Powdery mildew is a threat to all Australian grapevines – and most cucurbit crops – every season. Many products are registered to treat it, but only Vivando® ‘disarms’ the disease spores by disrupting development of the tips that allow them to penetrate plant tissue. That entirely different mode of action prevents the infection taking hold. Rainfast in just one hour, Vivando has both contact and vapour activity. That results in improved coverage of foliage and fruit, even in tight clusters.

Key benefits

  • Increased surface coverage for greater powdery mildew prevention
  • Rainfast in 60 minutes
  • Group U8 treatment
  • No cross resistance to other modes of action

How it works

The active ingredient of Vivando®, metrafenone, is the first agent from the benzophenone chemical class to be developed and Vivando is the first fungicide in a new group: Group U8.

Vivando stops infection by inhibiting spore penetration into the plant tissue and limiting sporulation. It also limits lesions by slowing the growth of existing powdery mildew infections. Smaller lesions reduce the spread of the infection.

Vivando is released by vapour pressure, which can help spread the active across the leaf or fruit surface. That distributive action maximises the protective area in all crops and is particularly advantageous in protecting tight bunches of grapes.

Questions and Answers from the Field

  • Does fungicide get rid of powdery mildew?

While it’s not possible to get rid of powdery mildew once established, it’s important to use a fungicide as a preventative such as BASF’s Vivando fungicide.  Vivando fungicide prevents powdery mildew from taking hold by disarming the disease spores. Unlike other fungicides, Vivando offers an entirely different mode of action to effectively get rid of powdery mildew.

  • How do you control fungus in cucumbers, pumpkins, watermelons and squash?

To control fungus in a range of cucurbits, such as cucumbers, pumpkins, watermelons and squash, use BASF’s Vivando fungicide. Vivando fungicide is highly effective at controlling fungus, such as powdery mildew, by stopping the spores from penetrating the surface of cucurbit crops.

  • How do you apply fungicide to grapes?

Vivando fungicide can be applied to grapes as part of a protectant spray program beginning when shoots are 10cm long. Vivando fungicide can be applied as a preventative spray from early flowering to 80% capfall to maximise fruit set and grape yield.

  • Is Vivando a systemic fungicide?

Vivando is a contact, not a systemic, fungicide. Vivando fungicide works by disarming the disease spores in powdery mildew.

  • What is the mode of action of Vivando?

The mode of action of Vivando is a Group U8 fungicide. Vivando is a highly effective fungicide that prevents powdery mildew in grapevines and cucurbit crops.
